The Škrabec Homestead
Innovative blend of memory and vision
Generations of the Škrabec family lived at the Škrabec homestead in Hrovača, and now the story of a new life unfolds in a small village on the edge of the small town. The expertly renovated buildings of the Škrabec homestead with the adjacent Kersnič smithy and Boštjan house are unique venues for cultural events, business and social meetings at the highest level and indulgence in superiorly designed apartments.
Hrovača
Hrovača is a small village in the immediate proximity of Ribnica. Due to the original three windows on the ground floor of residential houses, the Gottscheer-Germans in Slovenia once called it "Dreifensterdorf”. Although the three windows mostly disappeared from the house façades, the preserved traditional architecture and the old village centre, characterised by the hospitality of the villagers, still give the village a genuine charm. The Tourist Association of Slovenia has often declared the village to be the most beautiful village in Slovenia, and the villagers, members of the Village Ethnological Tourist Association of Hrovača (VETD Hrovača), have received several awards for their original contributions to the preservation of cultural heritage.
