Ribnica and its surroundings
Ribnica was first mentioned in 1220. Since that time, it has been particularly affected by all historical periods. The imperial patent, the Reformation, religious upheaval and the presence of Primož Trubar (castle ruins on Breg), witch trials, the education of France Prešeren (a walk through the Škrabec square), World War II (Ribnica Castle as a partisan hospital), Plečnik bell towers, intense industrialisation ... All this you can discover in Ribnica and its surroundings.

Small tips to explore the surroundings
One of the most beautiful churches and significant cultural heritage sites is certainly the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary near Nova Štifta, just a stone's throw away from Ribnica. The town of Velike Lašče in it’s vicinity is known as the cradle of Slovenian culture. The house where Trubar was born is the centre of local cultural events. With its cultural and natural attractions, Kočevje cannot be unoverlooked in your schedule.
